Shirley Barber

Kia ora Tokoroa North School Whānau

Hey there, I’m the resident teacher in Room 14. My name is Shirley Barber and I have been at North school for around 11 years. Mostly in the junior school, working with year 1 and 2 children. I have lived in Tokoroa for almost half my life. I was born and bred Southlander (Invercargill to be exact) I have 1 sister and 1 brother who still live there. I’m married to John and I have 3 sons, Leighton, Patrick and Mitchell. My boys are all grown men with their own families. That means I am a grandma to 4 granddaughters and 1 grandson with 1 more on the way. Leighton and his wife Tahlia and their 3 children reside in the sunshine coast of Australia. Both others are still here in Tokoroa. I enjoy spending time with family and friends, reading books and watching movies. I like going to galleries to view other creative peoples work and spending time outdoors with my husband – this could be hunting (me with my camera) or fishing or walking. We sadly lost our dog Gypsy 3 months ago, so have got a bit lazy with the walking. (time to get another but not sure I’m ready for the puppy stage again) We spend a bit of time in Taupo as there is always something happening.
